New Encoder-Modulators Making Waves in the Industry

December 22nd, 2016 in Solutions

The cutting-edge of innovation is a mind-bending place to work, a challenging place where most technology companies like to dabble but not necessarily dwell, relying instead on yesterday’s tried methods, regardless of their shortcomings.

At Contemporary Research, we live on the cutting edge, paving the way for improvements throughout the audiovisual industry. Our goal: to provide our customers with one seamless solution after another.

Enter the Dual Channel QMOD HDTV Modulator-IPTV Encoders and QIP IPTV Encoders. They’re easy to install, capable of full down or up-scaling – and gotcha-free, the non-technical term for those little glitches that threaten to upend your entire system when two opposing processes meet.

Early encoders didn’t include video adjustment. Consequently, if the video wasn’t delivered broadcast-standard (1080i/720p 29.97/59.94 HZ), it couldn’t be encoded.

In the AV industry, where last year can at times be as good as last century, we’ve come a long way. And though it’s still not quite possible to achieve uniformity across all formats – Apple’s 1080p, for example just isn’t the same as Windows 1080p – we’re coming closer than we’ve ever come before.

The QMOD HDTV Modulator/IPTV Encoders offer a full hardware scaler for both encoders, with improved, intuitive scaling across most VGA resolutions, including 1080p, 60/59.94, 30/29.97, and PAL formats.

“When we created the line of QMODs and QIPs, we made sure they employed built-in hardware scalers,” says Doug Engstrom, Vice-President of Technical Services at Contemporary Research. “We added scaling because we’re an integration-centric company, and we want installation to be simplified and hassle-free. Getting rid of video ‘gotchas’ was a big part of that.”

The dual-channel QMOD-SDI2, with two SDI inputs, sets a new standard for sports, motion and digital signage encoding. Dual hardware scalers accept content up to 3G 1080p and can shape digital signage for edge-to-edge presentation. Capable of delivering two HD programs in one channel, the QMOD-SDI 2 can also output the content as a Multicast or Unicast IPTV stream.

In the AV industry, scale can be everything. What the QMOD and QIP encoders bring to the market is a truly superior ability to downscale, dropping without a hitch, for example, 1080p video to 720p or even 480p – saving, in the process, an incredible and valuable amount of network bandwidth.

“In most cases,” explains Engstrom, “the video is automatically fitted to the screen, and the installer can zoom, shrink and position the video if needed. Video for 720p-only TVs can be fixed at 720p, or IPTV video could be up-scaled to 1080p or reduced to 480p for smaller streams.”

From ABC Studios and the AT&T Center to your local Ashley Furniture Store, Contemporary Research modulators are everywhere – because they just work.
